As computing becomes more ubiquitous in our objects, designers need to be more aware of how to design meaningful interactions into electronically enhanced objects. At the University of Washington, a class of junior Interaction Design majors is exploring this question. These pages chronicle their efforts.

Parts/ Supplies
We bought our lamp from Ikea for a fair price around $8, and as for the LED bulbs that we are going to use, we purchased them in a pack of 30 from amazon in the color "warm" white. This was because when we used the regular white LED it was very harsh and a bright white, we wanted the "warm" white because it has a slight yellow tint to the bulb. We came to this decision because we imagine our lamp to be in a home at the living room.
Our Idea: Poster // Camila and Stephen
During the early ideation process we came up with a few ideas for our Arduino project. The emphasis of this process was producing a large quantity of ideas, then filtering out the ones that may not be feasible, or are just lame idea. Our early ideas ranged from a smart bed that turns the lights out on its own, to a table that shames the user for not using a coaster.
We ended up going in a different direction, deciding to create a lamp that detects a phone alarm. This allows the user to wake up in a more relaxing manner, as the light dimming on can add a soothing effect to a normal alarm. The light also functions as extra incentive to not simply sleep your alarm, as the brightness of the light helps keep them awake. Below is or poster for our concept.

About Our Video [Jessica/Gloria]
We decided to film our video at home, and set our weather lamp on a bedside table/table in the living room. We want to show clearly the way different weathers change how the lights light up/what lights will light up. We would like to add some visuals/animations afterwards to enhance the effects.
If all goes well, it should be something similar to this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jS7VtlGvQDw.
