As computing becomes more ubiquitous in our objects, designers need to be more aware of how to design meaningful interactions into electronically enhanced objects. At the University of Washington, a class of junior Interaction Design majors is exploring this question. These pages chronicle their efforts.

Friday Night Tights - Sarah Churng, Mallika Simone

Our 'Friday Night Tights' are a leggings & Fanny Pack combo that house the Arduino and run wires down to the pressure sensors which slip into the users shoes. Although we originally were playing with a more kitschy aesthetic to boost the humorous nature of our design we eventually decided on a more chic and wearable look. The leggings have strips of pleather down the outside of each leg which we doubled with a jersey lining on the inside, creating a casing for our wires. We sewed a matching pleather pouch (to hold the Arduino) to the waistband of the leggings and ran the wires through the waistband and into the back of the pouch. We poked an LED light though the outside of the pouch, which lights up when the user is walking while intoxicated.
