As computing becomes more ubiquitous in our objects, designers need to be more aware of how to design meaningful interactions into electronically enhanced objects. At the University of Washington, a class of junior Interaction Design majors is exploring this question. These pages chronicle their efforts.

Components

Functionality:

The system works similarly to a piston and cylinder. Instead of timing the up and down motion, the up and down motion occurs depending on the input that our sensor receives from the environment that it is in. As a specific object nears or backs away from the unit, the “piston” moves up or down accordingly.
