As computing becomes more ubiquitous in our objects, designers need to be more aware of how to design meaningful interactions into electronically enhanced objects. At the University of Washington, a class of junior Interaction Design majors is exploring this question. These pages chronicle their efforts.

Take apart: Knolled image of Motion Activated Ikea Light

For my take apart assignment, I chose to take apart a motion activated Ikea light.

Some things I found interesting

A. INPUT: The light senses motion through this sensor. The sensor originally sat in the middle of the circuit board

B. PROCESSING: The circuit board processes the movement and activates the output

C. OUTPUT: There are two light sources that are triggered from the sensor. There is an actual light bulb, as well as five LED lights.

D. ENERGY SOURCE: This light is powered by batteries. It looks like there were also two capacitors that store and distributes energy evenly to the light sources.
