As computing becomes more ubiquitous in our objects, designers need to be more aware of how to design meaningful interactions into electronically enhanced objects. At the University of Washington, a class of junior Interaction Design majors is exploring this question. These pages chronicle their efforts.

No Phones At The Table – Installing Components – Rishi Agarwal and Annie Pyle

Here is our process of installing the electrical components into the table. The six light sensors required many connections so I made sure to structure it efficiently and color code the wires for easy debugging.

After I made sure all the sensors were wired up properly we installed it in a plastic tray Annie bought from Bartell Drugs.

The tray was stuck to the bottom of the table with strips of adhesive-backed velcro.

We cut 18-gauge wire to size, stripped the tips and soldered it onto our components.

The sensors barely poke out through the 1/4" holes drilled in the overhang of the table for a clean look.
