No Phones At The Table – Sourcing Materials – Rishi Agarwal and Annie Pyle

We spent a lot of time planning and ordering materials for our project. The largest purchase we made was the table. Our product is designed for a restaurant or cafe setting so our table needed to look the part. We started looking for cheap furniture at places like the UW Surplus store.

They had a table that seemed like it would work but it was too weathered. Next we looked on Craigslist. Someone was selling the perfect table for $15 but they never replied to us. We ended up buying a table new from IKEA.

We also needed a circle of semi-transparent acrylic to inlay in our table. Its purpose is to protect the NeoPixel and diffuse its light. We asked some industrial design seniors for the best place to buy acrylic sheets and the unanimous answer was "TAP Plastics". They had everything we needed – we bought two sheets of 12"x12" acrylic for around $10.
