As computing becomes more ubiquitous in our objects, designers need to be more aware of how to design meaningful interactions into electronically enhanced objects. At the University of Washington, a class of junior Interaction Design majors is exploring this question. These pages chronicle their efforts.

Sarah & Mallika // Knolled Pup

We knolled a hasbro I-DOG PUP and found some interesting and potentially useful sensors. The pup responds to hand motions above its head (petting) with a ceramic photoresistor that uses cadmium sulfide to conduct proportionally in response to light (which a waving hand obscures). We also extracted a sound sensor, a small speaker, a motor, a circuit board attached to seven colored LED lights and a bunch of miss matched screws!
